Slick pop rockers who put early Sly Stone in a bowl with the Eagles to create the ultimate 1970s L.A. party music. The Doobie Brothers were originally called Pud. Tom Johnston and John Hartman were introduced to each other by Skip Spence. Johnston had to go on hiatus from the band for health reasons in 1974. He was replaced by Michael McDonald. Constantly touring and recording, the band gradually gained popularity. They really blew up with "Minute By Minute" in 1978. Their 1978 breakthrough album, "Minute by Minute," spent five weeks at the top of the Charts.
