The Cure have been playing mope rock for depressed teens since 1976. Think of it in terms of units of black eyeliner sold. Originally called the Easy Cure, the band was initially formed in 1976 by schoolmates Smith, Tolhurst and Dempsey. In 1979, the band toured with Siouxsie and the Banshees. Smith would work with Banshee members throughout the next decade. It is a well known fact that Robert Smith is afraid to fly.
