This pop punk quartet is heavy on the hooks and abstains from all the shouting usually associated with emo bands. The cofounders (William and Mike) were both in competing Chicago bands that eventually split up. Discovering their common musical interests, they tossed their rivalry and formed The Academy Is...in 2002. The Academy Is portrayed vampires in Fall Out Boy's video for "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me." First just dubbed the Academy, they added the "Is" in 2004 to avoid hassles with another band who were already called that.
