Singer songwriter Jason Mraz grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia listening to the Agents of Good Roots and Dave Matthews. The Agents of Good Roots kindly offered to be Mraz's backing band on his debut album. Mraz's "Geek in the Pink" germinated in a Miami studio; he was hanging out with rappers and dubbed "whitest kid in the room." Producer Steve Lillywhite's favorite song on "Mr. A Z" is "Clockwatching," which Mraz calls his "sonic tribute to the ' 80s." Mraz and model singer songwriter Tristan Prettyman used to date.
