The Animal Collective's David Porter and Noah Lennox also go by the names Avey Tare and Panda Bear. Panda Bear has a solo album called "Young Prayer" that came out in 2004. The name Avey Tare (Portner) reportedly came from taking the "D" off of Davey. Tare is a play on "tearing" his name up. Avey Tare and Panda Bear met in the second grade. Tare met Deakin and Geologist in high school. The group started out in Baltimore, but is now based in New York City.
